When deciding which flooring manufacturers we wanted to work with, we chose high quality craftsmen who used
renewable resources to create sustainably harvested flooring solutions. This included people making
biodegradable carpets and masters at working with palm woods and bamboo. Others specialize in reclaimed woods
found in Asia or craftsmen who make cork flooring.
FSC certified woods from well managed forests are used along with reclaimed woods that can come from orchards,
river and lake bottoms, back yards, warehouses, bridges, railroad ties and telephone poles. Many reclaimed
woods coming from Asia were initially harvested generations ago and then forgotten or cast aside. This is some
of the most dense and durable wood on the planet. You can reuse these high quality hard woods without touching
any of the earth's forests.
Known for its beauty and durability, bamboo flooring is becoming a more common choice for sustainable
flooring. Bamboo is a natural resource that can be harvested and replenished safely and in a relatively short
period of time with a very minimal impact on the environment. Due to its rapid regeneration properties, bamboo
can be grown and harvested in 4 to 5 years versus up to 100 years for other hardwoods.
Cork is another alternative material available for flooring. The many inherent natural qualities of cork make
it an obvious candidate. The cellular composition of cork allows it to be forgiving and sturdy at the same
time. It can act as a natural thermal and acoustic insulator while being impervious to water. Cork also
contains natural insect repellent and antimicrobial agents. Cork is a great renewable and sustainable resource
that you can make use of in your home or office.
Currently available Flooring options: Cork, Reclaimed Woods, Finished & Unfinished Bamboo, FSC-Certified Domestic & Exotic woods, Natural Linoleum, and Recycled Rubber.
