The island of Kauai has been gaining popularity in recent years as more and more tourists and visitors look to witness the true Hawaii instead of tourist-designed resorts and over-expanded shopping centers. Recent Kauai homes for sale have been quickly snapped up by part-time residents looking to have convenient vacation homes close to a number of scenic sights, local hotspots, and beautiful vistas. Kilauea Lighthouse, located on the northernmost point of the Hawaiian islands, was built to guide ships heading to and from the Orient into the safe waters of Hawaii. Today, the lighthouse serves the same cautionary purpose that it did decades ago but also serves as a popular attraction for its sweeping cliff and ocean vistas and bird sanctuary.

The lighthouse also features a number of endemic plants and vegetation that have managed to survive an influx of foreign species due to the rather remote location of the peninsula that hosts the Kilauea Lighthouse. The Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge is home to a diverse population of nesting seabirds and is the only such location in the state. Red-footed boobies, the Laysan albatross, and the great frigate bird all call
the sanctuary home.
